Project Associate, Africa Projects (m/f/d)

ABOUT THE ROLE

The Transparency International Secretariat is currently seeking a Project Associate (m/f/d) to join the Projects Team to work on new and ongoing projects, with a strong focus on supporting the implementation of two African regional projects: the Stopping Impunity for Corruption through Enhanced Accountability (SICEA) project, funded by the US Department of State and the Inclusive Service Delivery Africa (ISDA) project, funded by Global Affairs Canada.

OVERVIEW OF KEY DIMENSIONS

Role Purpose: The Project Associate is responsible for helping to coordinate the start-up, workflow, monitoring, evaluation and learning (MEL), partner reporting, administrative management and design of new and ongoing projects and ensuring that agreed-upon goals, best practice standards, donor obligations and TI-S regulations are met regarding project implementation and MEL by TI-S and partners.

Salary Band: for this position corresponding to band PF1 a salary starting EUR 35,175.00 gross per year depending on relevant experience

Starting Date: As soon as possible

Contract Duration: 1 year with possibility of extension depending on the outcomes of the ongoing fundraising

Working Hours: full time [100%; 40 hours per week]

Location: Transparency International Secretariat (TI-S), Berlin

MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES OF THE ROLE

Based on the Projects Team, the Project Associate (m/f/d) will:

  • Proactively support day-to-day project implementation of projects in the Projects Team, ensuring consistency with TI-S processes, procedures and best practice standards
  • Strive for high-quality outputs and the greatest possible impact of project activities to advance the anti-corruption agenda in relevant countries
  • Work in close collaboration and ensure ongoing communication with project partners in relevant regions, particularly in relation to ensuring high-quality and consistent standards of monitoring data and donor reporting
  • Support project leads and partners to monitor and evaluate project/programme advocacy interventions and impact, plan advocacy interventions and research and communication/outreach activities, and share knowledge and experience across activities
  • Contribute to reviewing periodic narrative and financial reports received from chapters, ensuring they adhere to project guidelines. Support chapters in enhancing their reporting quality and follow-up to ensure timely submission of reports that meet the required standards
  • Ensure high quality and consistent MEL data collection, analysis, and reporting, and strengthen gender and inclusion mainstreaming activities while ensuring that the project MEL aligns with the organisational MEL standards and systems
  • Assist in the development of learning products and the organisation of learning events at the project level based on MEL findings
  • Support the preparation of project outputs, including narrative/accountability reports, training, events, presentations, publications, communications materials, web content, etc.
  • Support the organisation of events/meetings and related logistics; contribute to appropriate information management, including preparing documentation before and after events
  • Support the financial administration and compliance of the project (monitoring budgets, contracting partners and consultants, organising funding transfers, reimbursements, invoices, etc.)
  • Respond to requests for information, researching to provide sufficient responses or escalating where needed
  • Support the coordination of work and information flow between the project and other internal teams (e.g. Finance, Policy & Advocacy, Global Movement, Communications, Research), ensuring process integrity, as well as coordinating regular updates within the team
  • Contribute to the overall functioning of the team by providing proactive and ad hoc support where necessary and undertake administrative tasks related to the start-up of new projects or the day-to-day operational running of project work as required

CANDIDATE PROFILE

In order to succeed in this role, candidates will need to meet the following:

  • University degree in social sciences, administration, journalism, economics, management, or another relevant field
  • 2+ years of relevant experience - preferably with an International NGO or International Organisation - working on project management, budget/financial monitoring and MEL support or related, in a multi-country delivery context (essential)
  • Experience with donor-funded projects in the civil society field and donor rules and regulations, including experience in supporting MEL and impact reporting (essential)
  • Knowledge of, or considerable interest in, the work of Transparency International and the field of anti-corruption
  • Experience with supporting outcome harvesting-based MEL approaches an advantage
  • Experience with supporting/strengthening gender and inclusion mainstreaming in project implementation
  • Experience in organising major events with diverse international partners, in-person and remote, and meetings and workshops with project partners to support the development and roll-out of project MEL frameworks and processes
  • Excellent organisational and financial skills and ability to effectively support projects in a fast-paced and dynamic environment and work flexibly across projects as needed
  • Results orientation, resilience and tenacity with the ability to work under pressure in a collaborative setting, with exceptional attention to detail and high-quality standards of data task delivery
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to communicate and network effectively with a wide range of internal and external stakeholders
  • Excellent oral and written communication in both English and French is essential; additional languages are an advantage
  • African regional experience a distinct advantage
  • Prior donor experience with the US Department of State and/or Global Affairs Canada grant support a distinct advantage
  • Strong interpersonal, teamwork and intercultural communication skills, particularly in distance communication
  • Commitment to the values and principles of Transparency International
