ABOUT THE ROLE

The Transparency International Secretariat is currently seeking a Head of Finance (m/f/d).

OVERVIEW OF KEY DIMENSIONS

Role Purpose: The Head of Finance leads the financial operations of TI-S along with the planning, organising and controlling of financial resources and advises the TI-S senior management and TI Board committees on the overall financial situation and strategic financial management of TI-S

Team: Finance

Reporting Line: Chief Administrative Officer (CAO)

Salary Band: Salary according to TI-S internal salary structure; for this position corresponding to band M1: EUR 68,250 - 100,000 gross per year depending on relevant experience

Contract Duration: Currently we can offer an employment contract limited for a duration of 2 years, with the possibility of a permanent contract.

Working Hours: full time [100%; 40 hours per week]

Location: Transparency International Secretariat (TI-S), Berlin

MAIN ACCOUNTABILITIES OF THE ROLE

Reporting to the Chief Administrative Officer (CAO), the successful candidate will:

  • Provide the Finance Team with strategic leadership, ensuring effective and efficient delivery of results in line with organisational priorities
  • Lead and contribute to key reporting deliverables in finance, meeting organisational needs in an efficient manner while maintaining appropriate controls
  • Structure and deliver financial forecasts and updates to inform TI-S senior management and Board committees
  • Establish systems/processes to identify and mitigate financial risks associated with the organisational business model, including working with a broad network of National Chapters with a broad range of capacities and working in challenging or resource-constrained environments.
  • Lead TI-S organisational budgeting and forecasting processes
  • Lead organisational consolidated financial reporting under IFRS
  • Oversee the design and delivery of training and technical assistance to strengthen financial management systems, financial reporting, and accountability practices.
  • Lead the design and implementation of TI-S financial policies, rules and regulations, and oversee improvements
  • Actively contribute to organisational strategies by providing perspective from finance
  • Oversee and ensure high quality delivery of outputs and outcomes in finance; lead on and take responsibility for finance work’s monitoring, evaluation and overall accountability
  • Effectively lead team, provide regular feedback, addressing development and performance and fostering a teamwork approach in meeting objectives and goals
  • Lead on and ensure effective communication on financial matters, both between teams and with other stakeholders in the Movement
  • Build relationships and form alliances with external counterparts, communities of practice and stakeholders to scan for innovations and opportunities to form partnerships, and support others to do it, where applicable

CANDIDATE PROFILE

In order to succeed in this role, candidates will need to meet the following:

  • University degree in accounting, finance, economics and/or business; additional qualification as Accountant (e.g. ACCA, CIMA or ACA) desired
  • 10+ years of progressively responsible experience in financial, project and operational management, ideally in a NGO/non-profit environment
  • Proven track record of managing a structured, multicultural team providing services for an international organisation
  • In-depth expertise in financial planning and analysis, budgeting and organisational development with a proven track record of continuous improvement of processes
  • Strong technical expertise on organisational financial reporting, including International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS) and consolidation, as well as donor reporting and procurement
  • Excellent communication skills, and the ability to partner across different levels in the organisation and to explain accounting and financial matters to stakeholders with different backgrounds
  • Strong organisational skills and ability to work against tight deadlines while maintaining attention to detail and accuracy
  • Excellent English language skills (oral and written) required; additional languages, in particular German, French and/or Spanish, an advantage
  • High level of intercultural awareness, diplomacy and political sensitivity
  • Demonstrated interest in good governance and corruption related issues and advocacy
  • Commitment to the values and principles of Transparency International
